Ken Newell, AIA NCARB

Ken is a senior principal with Stewart Cooper Newell Architects and a member of International Association of Fire Chief’s (IAFC). During his involvement with the Fire Station Design studio, he has been involved in over 100 Fire/EMS stations and fire training facilities across the United States. Ken is a sought after speaker and author and has been published in Fire Chief Magazine, Carolina Fire Rescue EMS Journal, and other Firefighter’s Associations Publication.  He has also spoken at national and state fire conferences helping many more departments’ successfully complete new facilities.  Ken joined Stewart Cooper Newell Architects after graduating from North Carolina State University and University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he obtained his architectural degrees. Ken has also received training by the University of Maryland as a designer of burn buildings and other public safety training facilities. 

 

James R. Stumbo, AIA NCARB

Jim is a senior principal with Stewart Cooper Newell Architects, and has designed or served as the lead design consultant for more than 75 public safety facilities since joining the firm in 1999.  Jim’s areas of expertise include architectural and planning for Fire/EMS departments, 911/Emergency Operation Centers and Law Enforcement facilities. Jim also leads the studio for the design of Emergency Training Centers. He has attended and is certified by the University of Maryland as a designer of burn buildings for training fire fighters. Jim has shared his experiences and knowledge through articles and public speaking with various publications and conferences around the country.  Jim received his architectural degree from the University of Tennessee.

James C. Stewart, AIA NCARB CIS

Jim is one of the founding principals of Stewart Cooper Newell Architects. As a 1965 graduate of Clemson University, Jim has worked on a wide variety of buildings including hospitals, courthouses, municipal and governmental facilities, detention centers, office buildings, and restaurants. Growing up the son of a contractor, he brings a unique perspective to the design of our projects. He is always concerned with the constructability of a building and maximizing the usable space to provide our owners with more building for their money. Jim is heavily involved in quality control process and construction administration activities.  He works closely with all the architects passing along his knowledge and expertise.
